We’re hiring!

Freeman’s Creative is looking to grow our team! We are Durham’s source for fabric, yarn, and other handcraft supplies. We are located in the Lakewood Shopping Center, near the Scrap Exchange. Our focus is on small, independent companies and natural, easy care, and beginner-friendly product lines.

Please fill out the application at the link below for the position of interest. We will coordinate a time to interview qualified candidates.

Part Time:

October 2024- accepting applications through 10/11- NOW CLOSED

This is a part-time position with weekend hours. We are looking for someone who can work around 10 hours a week- currently looking for Saturday from 12-6 pm and Sunday from 2-6 pm. Pay starts at $15/hr along with a generous employee discount and PTO after 3 months.

Main responsibilities include assisting customers in selecting materials and patterns, cutting fabric and winding yarn, filling online orders via Shopify, answering questions via phone, and checking out customers. Employees also maintain cleanliness of the store, enter and label inventory, restock products, and other tasks as necessary. Employees do spend most shifts on their feet, and there is some lifting of boxes less than 50 pounds.

Ideal candidates have a working knowledge and interest in both sewing and either knitting or crochet.  Employees need to answer questions about yarn weights, match suitable fabric to patterns, and help customers select colors and designs that meet their needs. Employees should be self-directed, communicative, and detail oriented.

You do not need a background in retail, as we believe that if we are helping folks solve their problems, the selling part will take care of itself. Patience and empathy go a long way towards providing a positive experience for customer and staff alike. We are building a community based on trust, respect, and fair treatment.

This position is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about handcraft, who enjoys keeping up with pattern releases and industry news, and who is excited to learn more about the field.  We look forward to meeting you!
