Knit Skills: Summer Trellis Sweater

Saturdays, April 3, 10, 17, 24, and May 1, 1-3 pm. $150

Knit this ideal lightweight summer sweater, and you'll have your go-to warm weather garment! Knit top down, in the round, this design will cover provisional cast on, short rows, knitting charts, and picking up stitches, as well as general sweater shaping and techniques. This is a suitable first sweater for students with plenty of experience knitting from a pattern, but is ideal for students looking to improve their sweater experience!

If you've never knit before or need a refresher, this two-week virtual class will teach you all the basics. We'll start off with a simple garter stitch dishcloth and then learn the techniques to add new colors and textures in week two.

US sz 7 Needles (sz 6 or 8 will also work if you already have them)

2 colors of Worsted Weight cotton yarn like Nifty Cotton (with good contrast, no dark colors)

Sundays, April 11, 18, 25, 1-4 PM $135

The Gypsum Skirt pattern from Sew Liberated is the perfect breezy spring skirt! Our class features View A with large crescent-shaped pockets securely stitched into the skirt panels. Add a comfy 2” elastic waistband and you are good to go! Pick a soft woven cotton if this is your first garment, and venture into linen, double gauze or rayon if you are more advanced. If you have any fabric questions, just email!

This is a great class for beginners who have sewn a project or two but are new to sewing garments. We’ll go over measuring and sizing, the pattern envelope info, pinning and cutting, and construction from start to finish. Skills demonstrated will be sewing & pressing seams, trimming & clipping curves, understitching, stitching in the ditch, flat fell seams and french seams.
For the first class, we’ll be cutting out the pattern, cutting out the fabric, prepping to sew and answering machine setup questions. All sewing happens in the second and third classes.

- Three 3 hour live sessions

Equipment Needed: sewing machine with straight stitch and zig-zag options, iron, ironing board.

This beginner-friendly class packs a punch with bold lines and vibrant colors. Mollie will walk you through the process of creating a piece of embroidered art, from setting up your hoop to framing your one-of-a-kind piece. You can use the text provided in the pattern, or choose your own word to stitch! Students will learn how to transfer their design to fabric, a variety of common stitches, and how to finish a hoop for display.

Instructor: Mollie O'Reilly

In this class, students will learn:

● How to transfer their pattern to fabric

● A variety of stitches that can carry you through most of your embroidery projects, including back stitch, chain stitch, split stitch, and satin stitch

● Techniques for stitching linework and shading

● How to seal your hoop and prepare it for display

Supplies needed:

● Printed Tattoo Heart pattern (emailed pdf)

● 5” embroidery hoop (6” will also work)

● Hand embroidery needle

● Embroidery floss, such as Cosmo or DMC 100% cotton:

○ Red: 2 skeins

○ Black: 2 skeins

○ Yellow (or color of your choosing for flower center): 1 skein

○ Medium Blue (or color of your choosing for main petal color): 1 skein

○ Light Blue (or color of your choosing for petal highlight): 1 skein

○ Medium Green (or color of your choosing for main leaf color): 1 skein

○ Light Green (or color of your choosing for leaf highlight): 1 skein

● ¼ yard white quilting-weight cotton. Bella Solids 100% Cotton will work well.

● Needle threader

● Heat erasable or water-soluble pen for marking fabric

● Fabric scissors or all-purpose scissors

● Optional: small, sharp scissors, such as embroidery scissors or thread snips

You can knit but what is this purl thing? We'll cast on, practice our knit stitch, learn how to purl and then learn how to switch between knitting and purling to make a dishcloth from cotton yarn. Students should have experience casting on and knitting.

Learn to make your own hand-carved blocks to create custom stationery and printed art! This class will show you how to create and transfer designs, use standard carving tools, and print your design on paper. No experience or artistic talent necessary. Ages 16+
