In this class, students will learn all the basic steps to sewing by machine, including how to set up the machine, adjust the settings, change a needle, wind a bobbin, and sew straight lines. Students will sew a tool roll that can be customized to hold anything from knitting needles or clay tools to pens and pencils.

We'll learn basic pants construction as well as installing the concealed elastic waistband, pocket bags, and strap hardware. Students should have some experience sewing from a pattern. Students should cut their fabric in advance of the class.

We will choose our size and style, learn basic length and fit adjustments, as well as construction skills for elastic waistbands, patch pockets, and fusible interfacing. Students should be comfortable setting up their machine, maintaining a seam allowance, and have familiarity with basic sewing terms. We will cut our pattern pieces and fabric together in class. If you are using a PDF pattern, please come with your pattern pieces assembled.

We will cover choosing a size, finding your gauge, and basic construction techniques for bottom-up, drop-shoulder sweaters. We'll also cover a tubular cast-on, tricks for jogless stripes, and seaming, picking up stitches, and other finishing skills.

Learn top-down sock construction using worsted weight yarn. These thick socks knit up quickly and keep your feet toasty! From here, you’re on your way to knitting socks in all weights and designs. Students should confidently knit and purl; experience knitting in the round is helpful not required. We will learn basic top down sock construction, Old Norwegian cast-on, using DPNs or magic loop, short rows, Kitchener stitch, and fit adjustments.
