April 2022 Classes

Classes will state if they are IN PERSON, VIRTUAL, or HYBRID. Hybrid classes will allow for both in person or remote attendance. You will receive the Zoom link with registration for virtual and hybrid classes.

VACCINATION REQUIRED for in-person attendance. Masks must be worn at all times inside the shop and classroom. Hybrid and virtual classes include a class recording.


 

Knit Skills: Spring Charm Garland HYBRID

March 26, April 2 + 9, 1-3 pm $95

Spring is coming, and what better way to celebrate than a knitted garland of tiny spring charms! This project is a great skill builder for confident beginners, and will cover working with DPNs (Double Point Needles), general toy construction techniques, and knitted i-cord. Students should be comfortable casting on, knitting, and purling, and have some experience working from a pattern.

Materials:

Us sz 2/2.75 mm DPNs

Small crochet hook (C or similar)

Tapestry needle

Removable stitch markers

All yarn and filling supplies will be included, but feel free to bring alternate colors and odds and ends. If you are not able to pick up class supplies in-store, there will be an additional shipping charge.


What Do I Do Now? Fixing Knitting Mistakes IN-PERSON

April 16, 10 am-12 pm, $30

Every knitter has moments when they realize that something just isn’t looking right. Learn strategies to fix mistakes in a variety of knitting projects and gain tips to prevent problems in the first place. Students should be able to cast on, knit, and purl. This class is designed for confident beginners and intermediate students who struggle with dropped or twisted stitches, misplaced increases or decreases, or other common mistakes.

Instructor: Amie Palmer

Materials:

1 skein 100% cotton worsted weight yarn (like Cascade Nifty Cotton)

Needles to match (US 7 suggested)

Tapestry needle

Paper copy of pattern

Sticky notes or highlighter tape, colored pencils or multiple colors of highlighters/magic markers.

Before class, please cast on and knit the Garter Stitch rows in the Iron Gate washcloth pattern (free on Ravelry, or email for the pdf)


Sweater Skills: The Rift Tee HYBRID

The Rift Tee in Malabrigo Susurro

April 16- June 4, 1-3 pm $150

Knit this summer tee that's anything but basic! The bottom up design allows lots of customization, from two neckline options, optional bust-darts, and bicep shaping to short or long sleeves. If you can confidently knit and purl in the round, and have some experience reading a pattern, you're ready! We will cover basic sweater construction, sizing, and fit, as well as short rows, twisted rib, picking up stitches, and neckline shaping.

Supplies:

Pattern for the Rift Tee from Jacqueline Cieslak (pdf from the designer, Ravelry, or paper copy)

Sport to DK weight yarn for your size

US 8/ 5 mm circular in 32-40" and DPN (or preferred method for small circumference knitting)

Stitch markers

Tapestry needle

Extra needle in similar size or smaller than project needle for 3-needle bind-off



Mending By Hand HYBRID

Take good care of your clothes; learn to mend! We'll learn techniques to repair those holes, tears, snags, and rips on different kinds of fabric. Don't give up on your favorite pants, mend them! We will cover visible and more subtle mending and darning styles. Basic hand-sewing skills are helpful, not required.

Instructor: Julia Gartrell

Materials:

Scrap fabric, needles , and thread provided. Bring items in need of basic repair (torn knee, missing button, off-track zipper, etc) and favorite fabrics.


Intro to Machine Sewing IN-PERSON

April 24, 10-1, $45

Are you a beginner sewist who has no idea what all the knobs and dials on your machine do? Are you coming back to sewing after long break? If you know how to sew, but aren't satisfied with your machine skills, this class will show you the ins and outs of your home sewing machine! We'll go over terminology, set-up, stitches, and troubleshooting as well as tools that will help make your projects a success. You do not need a machine to register. We will only be going over modern machines.

Instructor: Shaerie Mead

Machine Intro Supply List:

- Your home sewing machine, in good working order with the power cord, foot pedal and matching bobbin

- 1/4 yard of any woven cotton fabric to practice on

- Any color thread

- Fabric shears or sharp scissors

- Pins (glass head pins are preferred but any kind will do for this class)


Intro to Indigo Dyeing IN-PERSON

April 30, 1-4 pm $60 OR May 14, 1-4 PM $60

Create your own incredible textile designs with Indigo! This 3 hour workshop explores traditional Japanese Itajime Shibori techniques to create geometric patterns in beautiful blue Indigo dye. Students will be provided with practice cloth and all dye materials, with the option to bring a couple small additional items such as a set of napkins, t-shirt, or up to a yard of fabric. Materials must be cotton, linen, hemp, or rayon for this natural dye process. Witness the transformation!

**INDIGO CLASSES: Please wear clothes that can receive permanent blue speckles. You will get some blue on you! **


Sewing Sessions IN PERSON

April 1 + 15, 5:30-7:30 pm $30

Ready to build your skills, try something new, or get out of the house & chat with other sewing folk? Join instructor Amy Edler for support & guidance in this 2-hour group sewing workshop. Bring a project, ask questions and brainstorm new ideas. Must be comfortable setting up a machine & working independently. Use of our classroom equipment included (machine, iron, scissors, etc) or BYO favorite tools.
In order to ensure that your project is a good fit for this workshop structure, instructor approval is required prior to class. At registration, you will be respond to the following questions:
