Sew Your Own: Ilford Jacket VIRTUAL CLASS

  • Freeman's Creative LLC 2020 Chapel Hill Road #25 Durham, NC, 27707 United States (map)

The Ilford Jacket by Friday Pattern Company is the quintessential chore coat, with loads of pockets to keep tools handy and an easy fit that allows for plenty of room to move. You can choose to make the longer or shorter version, and which pockets you’d like - we’ll go over all of them! In this class, we’ll cover the sleeve version with the full placket & cuff - you can also choose to make a boxy sleeve with a simple hem. Collars, cuffs, plackets & buttonholes - excellent skills to add to your sewing toolkit! This class introduces intermediate skills, but will also go over sizing, pattern modifications and fabric layouts. Confident beginners who have made a garment or two are welcome.

For the first class, we’ll be learning about pocket construction, so please have your fabric washed and pressed - or have 1/2 yard of practice fabric to work on. Also, have the pocket pieces cut from your pattern - the ones you are interested in putting on your jacket (or all of them). We’ll talk about sizing the jacket in the first class, so no need to cut out the rest of your pattern yet.

You’ll also need your sewing machine set up for the first class, and your iron warmed up. We are going to dive right in!

- Four 3 hour live sessions, plus homework.

Equipment Needed: sewing machine with straight stitch and zig-zag options, iron, ironing board, pressing ham, press cloth. For lengthening/shortening pattern: extra paper and clear tape.

Skills learned: patch pockets, pocket flaps, collar and facing, sleeve placket and cuffs, buttons and buttonholes.
