Knit Skills: Heirloom Quilt Cardigan HYBRID

  • Freeman's Creative LLC 2020 Chapel Hill Road #25 Durham, NC, 27707 United States (map)

Knitters and quilters unite to knit a cardigan that feels like being wrapped in a quilt! We’ll cover a variety of colorwork techniques, including stranded colorwork, intarsia, and ladderback jacquard, as we knit our squares. Later classes will cover construction, seaming, picking up for sleeves, sleeve shaping, button bands, and finishing. Students should be comfortable knitting and purling in the round. Previous color work and sweater knitting experience are helpful. This is not an ideal first sweater...

Swatching before class is not necessary, we will use our first square as a gauge swatch.

Materials:

Pattern for the Heirloom Quilt Cardigan from Katryn Seeburger (RavelryorEtsy)

DK weight yarn or fingering held double - see pattern for requirements and go stash diving! We have kits !

Needles to obtain gauge; pattern suggests a US 7 for the squares (knit flat), a US 6 for the sleeves (16" circular or DPNs) and a US 4 for the band (32-40" circular) but you will only need the US 7 for the first couple classes

Stitch markers

Tapestry needle

Skills learned - reading a colorwork chart, knitting flat colorwork using three different techniques, mattress stitch, picking up stitches, tubular bind off. We’ll also cover a bit of color theory!
