February 2022 Classes
Classes will state if they are IN PERSON, VIRTUAL, or HYBRID. Hybrid classes will allow for both in person or remote attendance. You will receive the Zoom link with registration for virtual and hybrid classes.
VACCINATION REQUIRED for in-person attendance. Masks must be worn at all times inside the shop and classroom. Hybrid and virtual classes include a class recording.
My First Hat HYBRID CLASS
Thursdays, February 10 + 17, 6-8 pm; $60
You know how to knit and purl, so let's move from flat squares to knitting in the round. Knit your first hat and learn skills for all sorts of future projects. We will cover knitting in the round, decreasing, reading charts, and finishing techniques. Students should be able to cast-on, knit, and purl.

Learn to make your own hand-carved stamps to create custom stationery and printed art! This class will show you how to create and transfer designs, use standard carving tools, and print your design on paper. No experience or artistic talent necessary. 16+

Slip Stitch for a Garden Cowl HYBRID WORKSHOP
Saturday, February 19, 10-12; $30
Our instructor Amie Palmer, of Daisy and Clover Designs, has a featured pattern at this year's Carolina Fiber Fest! We'll be knitting her pattern together leading up to the festival, but if you'd like to learn the Flower Stitch pattern used in the design, Amie is offering this workshop! Students should be comfortable casting-on, knitting, and purling in the round. Students should come to the workshop with 8 rounds of garter stitch complete. Project will be completed independently.

Intro to Machine Sewing IN-PERSON
Sunday, February 20, 10-1, $45
Are you a beginner sewist who has no idea what all the knobs and dials on your machine do? Are you coming back to sewing after long break? If you know how to sew, but aren't satisfied with your machine skills, this class will show you the ins and outs of your home sewing machine! We'll go over terminology, set-up, stitches, and troubleshooting as well as tools that will help make your projects a success. You do not need a machine to register. We will only be going over modern home machines.

Machine Intro Supply List:
- Your home sewing machine, in good working order with the power cord, foot pedal and bobbin
- 1/4 yard of any woven cotton fabric to practice on
- Any color thread
- Fabric shears or sharp scissors
- Pins (glass head pins are preferred but any kind will do for this class)

Sew Your Own: Underwear HYBRID
Saturday, February 26, 1-5 pm $60
Discover a new realm of creativity and comfort by learning how to make your own underwear! Starting with Ann Tilley’s original patterns as a jumping-off point, we will modify the style based on the desired fit of each maker. Base patterns include bikini brief, high waist, and underwear with legs. Class is gender-spectrum-friendly and size inclusive. Ann will bring a variety of elastics and trims, as well as serger and coverstitch machine. You will need a sewing machine with a zig-zag stitch, stretch needle, and 1/2 yard per pair of undies of 4-way stretch fabric.
Ann will provide fold-over elastic, elastic lace, and band elastic, as finishing options, but students should bring any elastic options they might be interested in using. Pattern and Materials free is $15; pay when you register.
Learn to Sew: The Market Bag HYBRID
Sundays, February 27 + March 6, 10-1 PM. $90
Class Description: This Market Bag class is designed for beginners who are learning how to sew. It’s the perfect follow up to our Intro to Machines class! This class assumes you can set up your machine and that you know how to sew a standard straight stitch (which doesn’t have to be super straight). Along the way, you’ll learn the basics of working with a commercial pattern and how to cut fabric accurately. Lots of straight stitch practicing and a few curves later, and you’ll have this roomy market bags for all of your grocery / organizing needs!
In class, we’ll focus on making the bag with the reinforced bottom and strapping handles. For the first class, we’ll be cutting out the pattern, cutting out the fabric, prepping to sew and answering machine setup questions. All sewing happens in the second class.
2 three-hour sessions
Equipment Needed: sewing machine with straight stitch and zig-zag options, iron, ironing board.

Basic Sewing Kit: sharp fabric shears, 2 x 18” clear ruler, tape measure, glass head pins, tailor’s chalk, seam ripper.
*Fabric notes: Heavier fabric called ‘bottom weight’ is best for this bag! Canvas, denim, twill, linen/cotton canvas - all excellent choices for a durable bag. No need to pre-wash fabric, but please do make sure it is not too wrinkly before class begins.
Skills learned: reading pattern envelope, cutting pattern, fabric anatomy and sewing terms, cutting layouts, pinning & cutting fabric, seam allowances, sewing & pressing seams, zig-zag stitch, edgestitching.
