January 2022 Classes

Classes will state if they are IN PERSON, VIRTUAL, or HYBRID. Hybrid classes will allow for both in person or remote attendance. You will receive the Zoom link with registration for virtual and hybrid classes.

VACCINATION REQUIRED for in-person attendance. Masks must be worn at all times inside the shop and classroom. Hybrid and virtual classes include a class recording.


Learn to Knit, One Dishcloth at a Time HYBRID CLASS

You’ll be able to knit all three of these by the end of the class!

If you've never knit before or just need a refresher, this three-week class will teach you all the basics. We'll start off with a simple garter stitch dishcloth, then learn the techniques to add new colors the second week, then add textured stitches in week 3. You'll be ready to knit so many projects after this class!

3 colors of Worsted Weight cotton yarn like Nifty Cotton (with good contrast, no dark colors)

My First Sweater: Ramona Cardigan HYBRID CLASS

Saturdays January 8, 15, 29, Feb 12 + 19, 1-3 pm. $150

It's time to knit your first sweater (or maybe your first sweater that fits?) The Ramona is a classic cardigan with raglan sleeves and subtle waist shaping. We will cover swatching, sizing, and fit, as well as basic sweater construction and button bands. Students should be comfortable knitting and purling in the round, and reading basic patterns.

Aran or Bulky yarn for your size​

Needles & Other Supplies:

• US 9/5.5 mm 32”/80 cm circ needle or size needed to obtain gauge.
• US 9/5.5 mm DPNs, or size used to obtain gauge (or you can use 32”/80 cm circ for the magic loop method).
• US 8/5 mm 32”/80 cm circ needle, or 1 needle size smaller than that used to obtain gauge (for button- band & neck ribbing).
• 8 stitch markers.
• 2 pieces of scrap yarn, approx 20”/51 cm in length.

Intro to Machine Sewing IN-PERSON CLASS

Sunday, January 9, 10 am- 1 pm, $45

Are you a beginner sewist who has no idea what all the knobs and dials on your machine do? Are you coming back to sewing after long break? If you know how to sew, but aren't satisfied with your machine skills, this class will show you the ins and outs of your home sewing machine! We'll go over terminology, set-up, stitches, and troubleshooting as well as tools that will help make your projects a success. You do not need a machine to register. We will only be going over modern machines.

Machine Intro Supply List:

- Your home sewing machine, in good working order with the power cord, foot pedal and matching bobbin (or rent one of ours)

- 1/4 yard of any woven cotton fabric to practice on

- Any color thread

- Fabric shears or sharp scissors

- Pins (glass head pins are preferred but any kind will do for this class)


Sewing with Knits: Hudson Jogger HYBRID CLASS

January 16, 23, + 30, 10 AM- 1 PM $135

Class Description: The Hudson Pant by True Bias is a slim fitting jogger that embodies comfort. They feature a lower waist, some room in the hip, a narrow leg – and pockets! Choose the full-length pants or the mid-calf version, both have legs finished with bands and an enclosed elastic waist. In this class, I’ll teach you how to use your standard sewing machine to successfully sew knits, and you won’t want to stop here – True Bias has a Hudson pattern for men and also a mini-Hudson for the littles! In fact, you can choose any of the above patterns for the class, and all are welcome to participate. Students should have made at least one other garment and be comfortable pinning, cutting and sewing woven fabrics.

Please come to class with your fabric washed, dried and pressed if needed. Machines are also needed in the first class as we will be experimenting with stitches on scraps.

- Three 3 hour sessions, plus possible homework.

Equipment Needed: sewing machine with zig-zag options, iron, ironing board. For lengthening/shortening pattern: extra paper and clear tape.

Knit Skills: Raina Shawl HYBRID CLASS

Saturday, January 22, February 5, March 5 + 12, 1-3 pm

This gorgeous shawl incorporates brioche, short rows, and garter stitch for an interplay of lines that's worth the effort! We'll cover general shawl construction techniques, German short-rows, two-color brioche, and brioche lace along with Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off. This large project is spread out over several months. Students should have some experience with brioche knitting, or strong skills in knitting from a pattern or shawl knitting.

My First Hat HYBRID CLASS

Saturday, January 29 + February 12, 10-12

You know how to knit and purl, so let's move from flat squares to knitting in the round. Knit your first hat and learn skills for all sorts of future projects. We will cover knitting in the round, decreasing, reading charts, and finishing techniques. Students should be able to cast-on, knit, and purl.
