June 2022 Classes
Classes will state if they are IN PERSON, VIRTUAL, or HYBRID. Hybrid classes will allow for both in person or remote attendance. You will receive the Zoom link with registration for virtual and hybrid classes.
VACCINATION REQUIRED for in-person attendance. Masks must be worn at all times inside the shop and classroom. Hybrid and virtual classes include a class recording.
Intro to Machine Sewing IN PERSON
June 4, 3:30-6:30, $45
Instructor: Amy Edler
Are you a beginner sewist who has no idea what all the knobs and dials on your machine do? Are you coming back to sewing after long break? If you know how to sew, but aren't satisfied with your machine skills, this class will show you the ins and outs of your home sewing machine! We'll go over terminology, set-up, stitches, and troubleshooting as well as tools that will help make your projects a success. You do not need a machine to register. We will only be going over modern machines.
Materials List:
- Your home sewing machine, in good working order with the power cord, foot pedal, and bobbin
- 1/2 yard of any woven cotton fabric (no stretch)
- Any color thread
- Fabric shears or sharp scissors
- Pins (glass head pins are preferred but any kind will do for this class)
Handmade Supply Swap IN PERSON
June 5, 3:00-5:00, FREE
If you love handcrafts, you've probably accumulated some extra supplies and unused items. By popular request, we are hosting a handmade supply swap so you can find new homes for your extras! Bring your clean fabric and handmade garments, tools, button collections, patterns, yarn you'll never use, and vintage trims. Please don't bring scraps, garment off-cuts, anything dirty, mildewed, crusty, or irreparable. We will set up in front of the shop at 3, swapping begins at 3:30.
Masks are not required at this outdoor event, but respect personal space and individual covid-safety comfort levels. Masks are required at all times inside the shop.
Hack Your Wardrobe for Bikers with TWIG: HYBRID
June 10, 5:30-7:30 PM, $30
Join Freeman's Creative and TWIG (trans, women, intersex, + gender non-conforming) Bicycle Community for a sewing workshop that will help you hack your everyday clothes to be more bike-friendly! We'll go over techniques and alterations for both machine and hand-sewing, no previous experience necessary. You will have lots of time to ask questions about specific sewing alterations. Please bring items you wish to alter.
This workshop is not a comprehensive introduction to sewing by machine. There is limited space for in-person attendance. Sewing machines are available for those with previous machine-sewing experience.
Learn to Knit, One Washcloth at a Time HYBRID
June 11 + 18, + July 9, 1-3 pm, $90
If you've never knit before or just need a refresher, this three-week virtual class will teach you all the basics. We'll start off with a simple garter stitch dishcloth, then learn the techniques to add new colors the second week, then add textured stitches in week 3. You'll be ready to knit so many projects after this class!

3 colors of Worsted Weight cotton yarn like Nifty Cotton (with good contrast, no dark colors)

Knit Skills: Top Down Socks HYBRID
The Shoreline Socks from Daisy & Clover Designs
June 11 +18, July 9 + 16, 10am- 12pm, $120
Get started on your sock knitting adventure with this original design from Amie Palmer of Daisy and Clover Designs! This summer shorty will introduce you to all the essential techniques for top-down socks with a flap-and-gusset heel using magic loop. Students should confidently knit and purl on small needles.

40" US Size 1 needles (or size needed to get 8 stitches/inch)
100g sock weight yarn
Tapestry needle appropriately sized for sock weight yarn
Pattern will be emailed to registered students and is included in the class
Craft Club: Second Sundays at the Honeysuckle
June 12, 3-5 PM, FREE
Craft Club is going to the Honeysuckle! On the Second Sunday of the month, we'll be meeting outside at the picnic tables at the Honeysuckle (the big red barn across the parking lot).
Masks are not required at this outdoor event, but you will need to pass through and indoor space to reach the picnic tables. No purchase of food or drink is required (but available!)
In case of inclement weather, we will meet in the shop classroom. Masks are required at all times inside the shop and classroom. Proof of vaccination is required for events inside the classroom.
Sewing Sessions IN PERSON
June 17, 5:30-7:30 pm $30
Ready to build your skills, try something new, or get out of the house & chat with other sewing folk? Join instructor Amy Edler for support & guidance in this 2-hour group sewing workshop. Bring a project, ask questions and brainstorm new ideas. Must be comfortable setting up a machine & working independently. Use of our classroom equipment included (machine, iron, scissors, etc) or BYO favorite tools.
In order to ensure that your project is a good fit for this workshop structure, instructor approval is required prior to class. At registration, you will be respond to the following questions:

Drawing and Painting with Ink with Kristen Solecki HYBRID
June 24, 6-8 pm, $30
Learn fun ways to work with the versatile medium of ink! Participants will learn a variety of techniques and fundamentals of ink while also getting to experiment with tone and mark making. From there, everyone will get to make their own series of ink drawings inspired by local floral arrangements. Each participant will leave with 4 finished drawings.

Fit Clinic with Shaerie IN PERSON
June 26, 10-1, $45
We all want to make garments that fit our unique body, which rarely happens right out of the package. Bring a muslin, wearable muslin, or work in progress of a garment you would like fitting help with, or a pattern you want to make a muslin for! This class is intended for people who have previously sewn garments and have intermediate sewing skills.
