March 2023 Classes

Classes will state if they are IN PERSON, VIRTUAL, or HYBRID. Hybrid classes will allow for both in person or remote attendance. You will receive the Zoom link with registration for virtual and hybrid classes.

VACCINATION REQUIRED for in-person attendance. Masks must be worn at all times inside the shop and classroom. Hybrid and virtual classes include a class recording.


 

Knit Skills: Brioche Hat HYBRID

March 4 + 11, 1-3 pm, $60

Brioche knitting creates a squishy, reversible fabric with a distinct pattern - one color dominant on one side the other color dominant on the reverse. In this class we’ll cover the basics of brioche in the round, as well as decreases, using the Harlow Worsted hat pattern by Andrea Mowry. Students should be able to knit, purl, yarn over, and work in the round.

Required Materials:

The pattern for the Harlow Worsted from Andrea Mowry (Printcopy or PDF from the designer)

Two skeins of worsted weight yarn, at least 50g each, in contrasting colors. You can use two solids/tonals or one solid/tonal and one speckled/variegated. Two speckled/variegated is not recommended.

US size 5/3.75 mm, 16” circular needle

US size 6/4 mm, 16” circular needle

US size 6/4 mm set of DPNs or a longer circular for magic loop

1 stitch marker and 1 locking stitch marker

Tapestry needle


Sew Your Own: Interland Dress HYBRID

March 4, 11, + 18, 3:30- 6 pm, $112.50

The Hinterland is your new favorite dress! This classic style can be customized for every style and season. We'll cover sewing bust darts, pockets, gathered skirts, set-in sleeves, bias binding, and button plackets. Students should have some experience sewing garments from a pattern. Those with less experience should choose a crisp cotton print or woven. More adventurous students can try a linen or rayon with more drape.

Pattern for the Hinterland Dress from Sew Liberated (Paper copy or PDF; pattern pieces should be cut before class)

Fabric for your size (prewashed + ready to sew)

Thread to match

1/2 yd lightweight fusible woven interfacing (like Shape Flex)

1/2- 5/8" buttons (4-5 for the half placket)

Basic sewing kit (working sewing machine, fresh needle, pins, snips, marking tools...)


Drawing from Nature Using Ink HYBRID

March 17, 5:30-7:30 pm $30

Learn fun ways to work with the versatile medium of ink! Participants will learn a variety of techniques and fundamentals of ink while also getting to experiment with tone and mark making. From there, everyone will get to make their own series of ink drawings inspired by nature! Each participant will leave with 4 drawings.

Materials:

1 bottle of India Ink Black

2 Watercolor brushes

Blue Le Pen

#2 pencil or similar

Watercolor postcards

Knit Skills: Bunny Slippers HYBRID

3/25 + 4/1, 10 am - 12 pm, $60

Make sure everyone in the family has toasty toes in these cute bunny slippers, sized from toddler through adult. We'll learn a pinhole cast-on, increases, decreases, knitting in the round on DPNs or 2 circular needles, and picking up stitches. Students should be comfortable knitting and purling.

Bun Bun pattern from Ukee Knits (PayHip or Ravelry)

90-200 yd of Super Bulky yarn (depending on size)

US 10 (6mm) DPN or 2 circular needles

Sewing Skills: Town Bag HYBRID

March 26, 11 am-3 pm, $60

Let's make the Fringe Town Bag, now a home sewing pattern from Grainline Studio! This roomy tote will organize projects of all sizes, with a drawstring closure and a variety of interior and exterior pockets. Students should be comfortable setting up and sewing straight lines on their machine and using a paper pattern.

Please come to class with your pattern and fabric pieces cut out. Leave your pattern pieces pinned to your fabric so we can go over markings.

1 yard mid to heavy-weight canvas, twill, denim, or similar fabric

Knit Skills: Baby Overalls HYBRID

March 25, April 1, 8, 3:30-5:30 PM and April 23, 3-5 pm, $120

Baby projects are the perfect way to build your skills on a smaller scale, plus everything is just cuter on tiny people! The adorable Potager Overalls will cover short-row shaping, buttonholes, and picking up stitches- all skills you can use for adult-size projects! Students should be able to knit and purl in the round and have some practice following a pattern.

Work In Progress Knitting Help IN PERSON

March 3, 17, 24, + 31, 1-3 pm, $30

We've all got a knitting Work In Progress that could use some help! Join knitting instructor Amie Palmer most Fridays for guidance! If you've taken a class with Amie, or a knitting class at Freeman's Creative, come work on your projects with guidance and support. This is an ongoing series for students who are starting, working on, or need help completing projects.
