October 2021 Classes
Classes will state if they are IN PERSON, VIRTUAL, or HYBRID. Hybrid classes will allow for both in person or remote attendance. You will receive the Zoom link with registration for virtual and hybrid classes.
VACCINATION REQUIRED for in-person attendance. Masks must be worn at all times inside the shop and classroom. Hybrid and virtual classes include a class recording.
Sew Your Own: Free Range Slacks HYBRID CLASS
Sunday, October 3, 10, and 17, 10 am-1 pm $135
Class Description: The Free Range Slacks by Sew House Seven are a great skill-building second project for a confident beginner sewer! Choose from a tapered leg version or a straight leg - both have a high rise, an elastic waist and plenty of pockets. This three session class will cover sizing, length adjustments, pockets, hems, facings and three different kinds of seams: standard, flat fell and French. Ooh la la!
For the first class, you’ll need your sewing machine set up, your paper pattern and some scrap fabric that has a clear right side / wrong side for seam practice. You can get your pants fabric after the first class if you have questions. Get ready for these slacks becoming your go-to garment for the fall!
- Three 3 hour live sessions, plus homework.
Equipment Needed: sewing machine with straight stitch and zig-zag options, iron, ironing board.

Sew Your Own: Heather Blazer CANCELLED
Sundays October 3, 10, 17, + 24, 2-5 pm. $180
Class Description: Join us for an excellent introduction to outerwear with this unstructured, modern blazer from Friday Pattern Company! We’ll use interfacing to create some soft tailoring, and learn how to bag out a coat lining for professional results.
This class introduces intermediate skills, but will also go over sizing, pattern modifications and fabric layouts. Confident beginners who have made a garment or two are welcome. Create your perfect fall layer with us!
For the first class, we’ll be going over the pattern, sizing, any adjustments needed, cutting layouts and working with fusible interfacings. Sewing starts in the second class, and you can wait to get your fabric after our first class if you have any questions.

Equipment Needed: sewing machine with straight stitch and zig-zag options, iron, ironing board, pressing ham, press cloth. For lengthening/shortening pattern: extra paper and clear tape.

*if you have fabric questions, we’ll discuss in the first class. Recommended outer fabrics are lightweight canvas and twill, denim, medium to heavy weight linen, linen/cotton canvas and wool suiting. Save plaids for your second blazer! Recommended lining fabrics (from easiest to hardest) are cotton poplin, voile, silk/cotton blends, bemberg rayon and silk.
Brioche Basics: The Water Born Headwrap HYBRID CLASS
Saturday, October 9 + 16, 1-3 PM, $60
Want to learn brioche, but worried that it's too complicated? Learn the basics in a this single color brioche class while making the Water Born headband from Jacqueline Cieslak. We'll cover provisional cast-on, single color brioche, and common brioche terms, techniques, and abbreviations. Students should be comfortable knitting and purling.

130-150 yd DK yarn (or one strand of fingering held with one laceweight mohair or other yarn with a halo to equal DK)

Intro to Machine Sewing IN PERSON CLASS
Sunday, October 24, 10 am- 1 pm $45
Are you a beginner sewist who has no idea what all the knobs and dials on your machine do? Are you coming back to sewing after long break? If you know how to sew, but aren't satisfied with your machine skills, this class will show you the ins and outs of your home sewing machine! We'll go over terminology, set-up, stitches, and troubleshooting as well as tools that will help make your projects a success. You do not need a machine to register. We will only be going over modern machines.

- Your home sewing machine, in good working order, with the power cord, foot pedal and matching bobbin
- 1/4 yard of any woven cotton fabric to practice on

Knit an Heirloom Stocking HYBRID CLASS
Saturday, October 30, November 6, 13, + 20, 1-3 PM $120
Knit a new holiday heirloom and learn some great knitting techniques, including two-color cast on, Latvian Braid, corrugated rib, charted colorwork, and sock shaping. This is a great first colorwork project, and with each technique broken down step by step, you'll have a family treasure to be proud of! The e-book includes variations for a whole family’s worth of stockings. Students should be comfortable knitting and purling in the round.

Sew Your Own: Hinterland Dress HYBRID CLASS
Sundays October 31, November 7, 14, +21, 2-5 PM $180
The Hinterland is a timeless dress with a fit that is loose, yet shapely, with bust darts, a gathered skirt with pockets, and optional waist ties. We'll be sewing the view with sleeves and a half placket. Students should have experience sewing garments from a pattern. We will work on length and bust adjustments, darts, bias binding, gathering, buttons and buttonholes, and in seam pockets.
*Please do not purchase your fabric before the first class, as we will be going over skills that might change your yardage and final fabric type!
For the first class, you’ll need your pattern, paper scissors, clear tape, highlighter, elastic + safety pin, a pencil and extra paper for pattern adjustments. In the second class, we’ll be constructing the bodice, and optional waist ties will be homework. The third class will focus on plackets, buttons and buttonholes. And in the fourth class, we’ll sew pockets and skirts and then sew it all together!
