September 2023 Classes
Classes will state if they are IN PERSON, VIRTUAL, or HYBRID. Hybrid classes will allow for both in person or remote attendance. You will receive the Zoom link with registration for virtual and hybrid classes.
Vaccination required for in-person attendance. At this time, masks are optional inside the classroom; please be mindful of our shared space. Hybrid and virtual classes include a class recording.
Learn to Knit, One Dishcloth at a Time HYBRID
September 9, 16,+ 23, 10 am-12 pm, $90
If you've never knit before or just need a refresher, this class will teach you all the basics. We'll start off with a simple garter stitch dishcloth, then learn the techniques to add new colors the second week, then add textured stitches in week 3. You'll be ready to knit so many projects after this class!

3 colors of Worsted Weight cotton yarn like Nifty Cotton (with good contrast, no dark colors)

Learn to Crochet HYBRID
September 9, 16, 23, + 30, 1-3 pm, $120
Lots of crochet technique in one fun bag!
Crochet a shoulder bag and learn all the basic skills for future projects. We will cover chaining, single and double crochet, eyelets, and other stitches to create a fun and practical bag. No previous experience necessary. Pattern for the Pawley Pocket Bag from Daisy & Clover Designs is provided.

Intro to Paper Patterns IN PERSON
September 10, 12-2 pm, $30
Looking to expand your sewing skills, but perplexed by paper patterns? Find your measurements, choose your size and learn what to do when you're between sizes, and decipher all the symbols and markings on your pattern! Bring any pattern you'd like to sew and get started on your next project! This class is perfect preparation for any of our garment sewing classes.

**We will not be sewing in this class. No machine required.**
Knit Skills: Steeked Mitts HYBRID
September 16 + 23, 3:30-5:30 PM, $60
-If you will not be in person for the second class, you will need access to a sewing machine.
Steeking means cutting your knit projects, and is often used to turn sweaters into cardigans! Learn this technique with a fun pair of fingerless mitts that match. Students should be comfortable casting on and knitting in the round.
Instructor: Rachel Offerdahl
Required Materials:
Meeting of the Waters pattern (Printed or PDF)
Gradient or striping yarn of any weight, or scrap yarn of matching weights (around 120 yards)
16" Circular Needle appropriate for your yarn;
16" Circular Needle 2 sizes smaller;
Stitch markers;
A gauge swatch in the round is helpful, but not required
Sewing Sessions with Erin
September 17, 12-3 pm, $30
Ready to build your skills, try something new, or get out of the house & chat with other sewing folk? Join instructor Erin West for support & guidance in this 2-hour group sewing workshop. Bring a project, ask questions and brainstorm new ideas. Must be comfortable setting up a machine & working independently. Use of our classroom equipment included (machine, iron, scissors, etc) or BYO favorite tools.
Include your project info so the instructor can prepare to best help you.

Sewing School IN PERSON
Septmber 24, October 1, 8, + 15, 11 am- 2 pm, $180
Learn to sew (or refresh your skills) in a fun and supportive environment! Using Shea Henderson’s book School of Sewing, students will complete 4 projects, building skills in machine sewing. We’ll cover fabric selection, essential tools, and basic techniques while making pillowcases, aprons, bags, and more.

Materials:
Sewing machine with all-purpose foot and a zipper foot (or rent one of ours)
*We have most of these supplies in our classroom, and you won't need everything for the first class. Please ask us if you are trying to prioritize which items to purchase.*
Bodkin or large safety pin
Acrylic ruler (at least 12" long)
Cutting mat (18x24" or 24x36")
Week 1-- Speedy Pillowcase
Skills: fabric basics, machine basics, tools, cutting, pinning, pressing, French seams, straight stitching, pivoting
27” X 41” main fabric (if using a print - use non-directional - can cut from 3/4 yard); 9” X 41” cuff fabric (if using a print - use a non-directional - can cut from 1/4 yard); thread to match
Week 2—Lined Drawstring Bag
Skills: cutting, assembling multiple pieces, making boxed corners, creating a casing
3 fat quarters (fat quarter=18" x 21") for outside, outside contrast, and inner lining; 2 yds ribbon, twill tape, etc...; thread to match
Week 3-- Apron
Skills: topstitching, pressing, rotary cutting, edge stitching, making bias tape, hemming
1 yard for main apron, slightly heavier fabrics like canvas, linen, or denim are good choices; 1/2 yard for pocket and strings (quilting cotton works well for this); thread to match
Week 4-- Zipper Pouch
Skills: using interfacing, inserting a zipper, topstitching, boxed corners
1/4 yard OR 1 fat quarter for exterior; 1/4 yard OR 1 fat quarter for interior; 9" or longer zipper; thread to match; midweight fusible interfacing
Work In Progress Knitting Help IN PERSON
September 8, 22, + 29, 1-3 pm, $30
We've all got a knitting Work In Progress that could use some help! Join knitting instructor Amie Palmer most Fridays for guidance and support. This is an ongoing series for students who are starting, working on, or need help completing projects. If you have any questions about the class format, or whether your project is appropriate for this class, please contact the shop. If the instructor is not familiar with your project, please let us know the name of the pattern and the issue you are having in advance of the class.
