September 2024 Classes
Classes will state if they are IN PERSON, VIRTUAL, or HYBRID. Hybrid classes will allow for both in person or remote attendance. You will receive the Zoom link with registration for virtual and hybrid classes.
Please keep vaccinations up-to-date for in-person attendance. At this time, masks are optional inside the classroom; please be mindful of our shared space. Hybrid and virtual classes include a class recording.
Intro to Paper Patterns IN PERSON CLASS
September 6, 6-8 pm, $30
Looking to expand your sewing skills, but perplexed by paper patterns? Find your measurements, choose your size and learn what to do when you're between sizes, and decipher all the symbols and markings on your pattern! Bring any pattern you'd like to sew and get started on your next project! This class is perfect preparation for any of our garment sewing classes.

Learn to Knit HYBRID CLASS
September 7, 14, + 28, 10 am-12 pm $90
If you've never knit before or just need a refresher, this class will teach you all the basics. We'll start off with a simple garter stitch dishcloth, then learn the techniques to add new colors the second week, then add textured stitches in week 3. You'll be ready to knit so many projects after this class!

3 colors of Worsted Weight cotton yarn like Nifty Cotton or Coastal Cotton (with good contrast, no dark colors)

Knit Skills: Lumme Colorwork Sweater HYBRID CLASS

September 7 + 14, October 5, 12, + 26, November 2, 1-3 pm, $180
This stunning pullover is a perfect introduction to stranded colorwork. We'll cover colorwork charts and techniques, yoke increases, provisional cast-on, and general fit and shaping techniques. Students should be comfortable working ribbing in the round and reading patterns; previous sweater experience is helpful.

Worsted weight yarn in 2 colors (or more!) with good contrast
US 6/4.0 mm in 16", 32-40" and DPN (or preferred method for small circumference knitting) for the ribbing
US 7/4.5 mm in 32-40" and DPN (or preferred method for small circumference knitting) for the main body and sleeves
US 8/5.0 mm 24", 32-40" and DPN (or preferred method for small circumference knitting) for the colorwork sections

Sewing Skills: Zipper Pouch IN PERSON CLASS
September 8, 11 am- 2pm, $45
Keep growing your sewing skills with a Boxed Zipper Bag! We'll learn to insert a zipper, use fusible interfacing, sew a bag lining, and create boxed corners. Students should be able to set up and thread a machine and sew straight seams while maintaining an accurate seam allowance.

Knit Skills: Cabled Vest HYBRID CLASS
September 14 + 28, October 12 + 26, November 2, 3:30-5:30 pm, $150
Ghost in the Orchard is a classic cabled vest knit in the round from the bottom up. We will cover charted and written cables in the round and flat, double seed stitch, short rows, seaming, and picking up stitches. Students should be comfortable knitting and purling in the round, and have experience working from a pattern.

Sewing Skills: Lifting a Pattern IN PERSON
September 15, 11 am - 2 pm, $45
Learn to make a pattern from your favorite ready-to-wear garment! We'll learn how to accurately trace garment seams and other details using a pounce wheel, add seam allowances, and create a pattern you can use over and over to duplicate your favorite garments. Students should have previous experience sewing garments from a pattern.

Bring 2-3 simple garments to trace, such as knit or woven pullover tops, pull-on pants/shorts/skirts (no buttons or zippers)
We have all basic sewing supplies in the classroom, but you may want to bring your own sewing kit for convenience. We will be using tracing paper and tracing wheels.
Learn to Crochet: Granny Squares HYBRID CLASS
September 28, 1-3 pm, $30
Fun crochet patterns are surging in popularity! Learn how to start a project and form the basic stitches of chain, slip stitch, single, and double crochet. We’ll make a classic Granny Square coaster to give you the skills you need to get started with this quick and engaging craft.

Sewing Sessions with Erin IN PERSON
September 29, 12-2 pm, $30
Ready to build your skills, try something new, or get out of the house & chat with other sewing folk? Join instructor Erin West for support & guidance in this 2-hour group sewing workshop. Bring a project, ask questions and brainstorm new ideas. Must be comfortable setting up a machine & working independently. Use of our classroom equipment included (machine, iron, scissors, etc) or BYO favorite tools.

Work In Progress Knitting Help IN PERSON
September 6, 13, + 27, 1-3 pm, $30
We've all got a knitting Work In Progress that could use some help! Join an instructor for assistance! Come work on your projects with guidance and support. This is a group class for students who are starting, working on, or need help completing projects. If you have any questions about whether your project is appropriate for this class, please contact the shop with a description.
