Block Printing Basics
Saturday, May 1, 2-5 pm $45
Learn to make your own hand-carved blocks to create custom stationery and printed art! This class will show you how to create and transfer designs, use standard carving tools, and print your design on paper. No experience or artistic talent necessary. Ages 16+
Instructor: Jillian Lea
Materials:
Design to carve (printout, trace, or sketch)
Speedball rubber carving blocks or linoleum block
Speedball carving tool (v gouge)
Block Printing Ink (for paper or fabric, depending on your project)
Rubber Brayer

Join us for a conversation with author and designer Sonya Philip as she introduces her new book, The Act of Sewing. Sonya's popular line of patterns, 100 Acts of Sewing, is one of our favorite ways to get started sewing garments, and her new book includes 4 full-size patterns and ideas for modifications to make the handmade wardrobe of your dreams. Sonya's sewing philosophy is accessible, beginner-friendly, and mindful. We can't wait to get sewing!

Knit Skills: Top-Down Socks
The “Drizzled in Chocolate Sock” from Daisy and Clover Designs
Saturdays, May 8, 15, 22, 10-12 PM $90
Instructor: Amie Palmer
Get started on your sock knitting adventure with this original sock design from Amie Palmer of Daisy and Clover Designs! We'll learn a super-stretchy Double-Start Cast On that leads into a 2x2 ribbed cuff, followed by a textured pattern using knits, purls, and the occasional yarnover. The heel features an Eye of Partridge design and flap-and-gusset construction, and it all wraps up with a grafted wedge toe. Students should confidently knit and purl on small needles.
Required Materials:
40" US Size 1 needles (or size needed to get 8 stitches/inch)
100g sock weight yarn
Tapestry needle appropriately sized for sock weight yarn
Pattern will be emailed to registered students and is included in the class.

Sew Your Own: Cielo Top
Simple style with great details and useful techniques!
Fridays, May 14, 21, & 28, 6-9 pm $75
Instructor: Shaerie Mead
The Cielo Dress & Top is an easy, breezy take on a boxy tee and shift dress. We'll be making the cropped top with short sleeves and a faced neckline in three 3-hour sessions. Loaded with interesting details and interchangeable features, it will fast become a wardrobe-building favorite. This class is suitable for a confident beginner who has made a garment before, and for intermediate sewists looking to build their construction skills. We’ll also review techniques for a bias finished neckline, the dress with pockets, and the gathered lantern sleeves.
Fabrics can be yarn dyed or printed cottons, linen or linen blends* - we’ll discuss each one and how it will affect the final garment. *Please do not purchase your fabric before the first class, as we will be going over skills that might change your yardage and final fabric type!
Equipment Needed: sewing machine with straight stitch and zig-zag options, iron, ironing board, pressing ham, press cloth. For lengthening/shortening pattern: extra paper and clear tape.
Supply List: Closet Core ‘Cielo’ Top & Dress paper pattern; highlighter; paper scissors; Cotton, linen or linen blend fabric* in the yardage for your size and view; 1/4 yard lightweight woven fusible interfacing (Shape Flex 101); matching thread; washable chalk pencil or washable marking tool of your choice
Basic Sewing Kit: sharp fabric shears, 2 x 18” clear ruler, tape measure, glass head pins, seam gauge
Skills learned: lengthen/shorten pattern, cutting between sizes, sewing & finishing seams, marking & sewing darts, setting sleeves, topstitching, understitching.

Intro to Machine Sewing
Sunday, May 16, 1-4 pm $45
Are you a beginner sewist who has no idea what all the knobs and dials on your machine do? Are you coming back to sewing after long break? If you know how to sew, but aren't satisfied with your machine skills, this class will show you the ins and outs of your home sewing machine! We'll go over terminology, set-up, stitches, and troubleshooting as well as tools that will help make your projects a success. You do not need a machine to register. We will only be going over modern machines.

Machine Intro Supply List:
- Your home sewing machine, in good working order with the power cord, foot pedal and matching bobbin
- 1/4 yard of any woven cotton fabric to practice on
- Any color thread
- Fabric shears or sharp scissors
- Pins (glass head pins are preferred but any kind will do for this class)
